The Domaine du Deffends is situated in the foothills of Monts Auréliens running along the ancient Roman road of the same name. The soil is chalky, arid and porous.

Thanks to its gentle incline and privileged south-eastern orientation, the du Deffends vineyard has never suffered the effects of frost. Production is kept deliberately low by aggressive pruning and, if necessary, early harvesting of the grapes.

The Domaine du Deffends is a small family business led by a spirited team of aficionados. We strive to take full advantage of the superior soil and climate through a rigorous commitment to quality. In doing so, we offer wine enthusiasts the assurance of a product that goes directly from our cellar to the table without manipulating or tampering with the contents in any way.

This site contains information about our wines, the demesne, the region and its history. We try to make it as lively as we can by keeping you up to date with all the news in ‘le blog’. Discover the day to day life, our friends and neighbours, those who help us out to make our wine, the artists we exhibit and much, much more. It’s our way of sharing the pleasure, and yes, occasionally, the exasperation of running a vineyard in the south of France.

Just one thing though, ‘le blog’ is only available in French. So, if you have to, dust off the old school books, get out the dictionaries and have a go!

Words

"Come, come, good wine is a good familiar creature if it be well used; exclaim no more against it."
Shakespeare, Othello

"Clos" closed

You probably noticed that some of our wines changed name. Clos de la Truffière is now Champs de la Truffière and Clos du Becassier is now Champs du Becassier. They join Champ du Sesterce. There are no walls around our fields, they are not close, not "Clos". Everything are in order.

We are in New York
